Description

Unless you are using this course with someone else and they have the Helps & Hints you may want to order the set not just the textbook

Science in the Beginning is the first book in a hands-on, multilevel elementary science series that introduces scientific concepts using history as its guide. Because each lesson is built around an activity or experiment, it is engaging for all K-6 students. In addition, there are three levels of review for each lesson, so the parent/teacher can choose the depth at which each student is expected to grasp the material. The course contains roughly 90 hours of instruction, 35 of which are composed of hands-on activities.

The beginning of history is given in the Bible’s creation account, and this book uses the days of creation as a way of introducing a wide range of scientific concepts including the nature of light, energy conservation, the properties of air and water, introductory botany, our solar system, basic zoology, and some aspects of human anatomy and physiology. As the students learn about these scientific concepts, they are constantly reminded of the Creator who fashioned the marvels they are studying.

I bought this book for my twins in grade 4, and my daughter (grade 1 but advanced). Since English is not their native language I usually summarise/explain it for them and then they do the experiment and the questions. I love how it is suitable for big families, reusable (hardcovers last so much longer! I love them!) and the fact that you don’t have to purchase new workbooks each time you use it. The free printable workbooks online are nice but we will probably just use our own lined notebooks. They like the experiments and the best thing I found out… it’s only 90 lessons (including challenge lessons) which makes it not too overwhelming to use. My only (small) disadvantage is that it’s quite a lot of reading but I hope with time they will get used to that and be able to work independently. Highly recommend!

I am a homeschooling veteran mom of 17 years. I wish I could have bought this curriculum for my oldest children. It is the best elementary/Jr. Hi science curriculum we have ever used. It inspires wonder, discussion, and academically useful
understanding of our world in a way that brings glory to God. I appreciate the different levels of workbooks so that one lesson and one curriculum can be used for multiple grade levels. It is time efficient and economical and it allows us all to share in a common experience. My children enjoy actively learning with each lesson’s hands on “experiments,” or object lessons. It gives them practice following directions and explaining the science concepts in their own words. It is very helpful to busy moms that most all the items needed for these lessons are simple household things.

Testimonials

"We absolutely love Science in the Beginning. The kids look forward to it. It's just a joy. I doubt it will take us a year to get through it. The children beg for it!"

"Enjoying is like the understatement of the century!! We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!!! By far our favourite "school" we’ve ever done!!!"

I just wanted to tell you how much my nine year old son and I are enjoying Science In the Beginning.

Every day I have him write in a journal about the best part of his day. So many of the entries are
"The best part of the day was when we had science", or "the best part of the day was when we did the experiment".

I cannot thank you enough for developing such an easy to use, God honoring, and kid-friendly curriculum.

"The kids love the experiments! I like that they aren't content just to do the experiment as written; they play around and try other things -- just to see what happens."

"My 6-year old grandson and I are thoroughly enjoying this, especially the experiments...The lessons are so well explained allowing him to grasp the concepts very well."
